Friends of Loma Vista Farm

The Friends of Loma Vista Farm (FLVF) was officially founded in October 2004 when the application to the IRS applying for non-profit status was granted.  Friends of Loma Vista Farm officially became a 501(c) (3) when the letter was received from the IRS and Department of Treasury.   For months prior to October 2004, a small community of farm supporters were energetic, eager, and desperate to keep the farm open and alive!   As word got out to the full Vallejo community, support followed.

FLVF was created as a result of the economic environment in Vallejo in the prior 2 to 3 years before 501(c) (3) status was granted.  Vallejo and the surrounding community was in economic turmoil and in a major downturn. When property values fell, Vallejo City Unified School District’s (VCUSD) tax base fell. VCUSD’s new leadership was cutting operations across the board to save on expenses, and this included the farm.  When LVF was put on the chopping block, the community rallied to save it!

Loma Vista Farm was founded in 1974 and has been making a difference in the community for almost four decades as a resource for environmental education.  Initially, the focus was on elementary students, K-3rd grade. The Environmental Academy was established by VCUSD, resulting in educating more students, focusing up through 8th grade. The services the Farm provides to the community are found on the farm’s website www.lomavistafarm.org.

Since 2004, the FLVF has evolved from a very young non-profit with an unsure future into a stable reliable fundraising powerhouse.  FLVF worked to solidify its purpose to financially feed the farm’s need.  At the same time, FLVF has helped with funding the education programs at the farm and growth in the farm’s infrastructure.

Today Loma Vista Farm is a public and private venture between the Vallejo City Unified School District and the Friends of Loma Vista Farm. The Friends provide fiscal, administrative, and organizational oversight and leadership. The Board is comprised of teachers, parents, community members, and representatives from local businesses. The Friends’ mission is to support Loma Vista Farm & Garden Center with funding and ideas for future planning and development.

The ‘Friends of Loma Vista Farm’, a California 501c3 nonprofit corporation, Tax ID #32-0109022, is a privately funded, nonprofit fund-raising organization supporting this educational Farm.  Loma Vista Farm is supported 100% by the nonprofit ‘Friends of Loma Vista Farm’ and without private funding, the Farm could not continue to operate. Your donations are tax-deductible and Friends of Loma Vista Farm issues necessary documents for use in recognition of all donations. Please consult your tax adviser.
